School update….

….summer school is going well. After today, I only have 4 more class days and one of those is the final. I will probably make a B in the class…..I could have made an A if it was during the normal semester but it was a lot of work crammed into 5 weeks and I don’t think some of my writing was A work. But, we will see, still two more major assignments to turn in.
I had my education orientation last week and I am all registered for fall classes, so I am on the track to graduation finally.
Thanks to everyone for all of your love and support.
Summer/Winter Room

I like having my two-bedroom apartment because I have a “summer room” and a “winter room”. My apartment has horrible insulation or something and my apartment in the summer heats up to sometimes over 80 degrees even with the A/C running all day…I hope this is not the case in my new place.
Anyway, my apartment people gave me a portable A/C unit. It isn’t the unit that sits in the window, it is a standing unit inside the apartment and has a little vent thing that goes in the window, but nothing sticks out. Anyway, at some point in the summer it just gets too hot in here……so I put the portable A/C unit in my office room which has a twin bed. So, for the summer, this becomes my primary room. I have the extra A/C for late in the day at work when it gets hot and I sleep in here at night during this time so I can have the A/C.
In the wintertime, I sleep in my main bedroom with my queen bed. It is easier to keep the apartment cool at this time and when it is really cool, the window in that room is on a wall [2nd floor] so I can open the windows at night.
It is a good arrangement. I am hoping that the new apartment will have a 2nd or 3rd floor wall with a window for winter and if I need to get a portable A/C unit for it, I will.
Stay cool.
It drives me bonkers when…..

… people call in at work and ask for information and then when I start giving it to them they say:
“Hold on, let me find a pen.”
If you are calling for information, have a pen and paper ready before you call.
Ch-ch-change……

So, apparently, my friends had a pre-intervention about me last weekend when I was in Abilene.
I am moving….in the fall, to campus housing. This has been on my mind for awhile…..trying to transition as my degree gets closer and now it is in the 2 year window……which is not long at all. So, for the next year, my focus is paying everything off and saving some money. It would be hard to do this in my current living conditions. I am not ready to move in with one of my friends rent free yet…..although I love them for offering. I know some would say WHY NOT ? But, I still appreciate the independence of basically living within my own means for as long as possible.
So, a few weeks ago I decided to move to campus housing in the fall. There was really only one option on the table…..roommates. And, my choices are : 3 roommates or 1 roommate. The 3 roommate scenario is $492 a month…..furnished apartment with all utilities paid including basic cable. The 1 roommate scenario is $570 a month…..unfurnished with all utilities paid including basic cable. In the 4 bedroom I have to share a bathroom with one of the roommates and in the 2 bedroom I have my own bathroom.
My initial plan was to go the 4 bedroom route……to save the most money, but I ended up going the 2 bedroom route because I was convinced having my own bathroom was the best. I’m actually wavering this week about going back to the 4 bedroom scenario. I want to save money, that is the goal.
So, they didn’t know I had gone the 2 bedroom route when they had this pre-intervention, they were basing this need for an intervention on me going the 4 bedroom route. I probably need to ask them more about why because when they told me about it this weekend when we were at dinner, I didn’t get their whole story since I told them I had opted for the 2 bedroom which seemed to appease them. I think they think I will never have any time to myself if I have 3 roommates and that I will need my space.
Ha – isn’t that hilarious ?
All I have is space now…..I am probably the loneliest person they know. And, I don’t me that in a pathetic let me slit my wrists kinda of way….I just live an alone life. I live by myself and I work at home. The only time I am around other human beings is when I am in class 2 hours a day and when I meet up with them for social activities. I would love to hear someone walking around in the other room. I would love to have a conversation with someone about a TV show I am watching or what we need from the store. I’d like to be able to have someone to rant to when I have a bad day at work.
Living with roommates gives me a much cheaper way to spend the next year so I can save money and pay everything off and it also give me some human contact on a daily basis.
I see no need for an intervention….and I think I will change back to the 4 bedroom.
Hot hot hot !!!

Since the new A/C repairs my apartment has been doing alot better at cooling but these 100 degree days are taking their toll. So, this weekend it is time to re-arrange the bedroom and put the portable A/C in for a cooler sleeping experience.
Weekend Recap !

So, I headed to Abilene this weekend to see the Hightowers. They didn’t get to come up for my birthday weekend so I went down to see them for a belated get together. Friday night we went to a friend of theirs to have dinner while the menfolk worked on Mason and Morgan’s VW Beetle. I think the guys had a good time starting to take it apart and the few minor issues it has seem to be not as bad as originally thought. I wish them luck.
Saturday we got up and milled around until it was time to head out and take Mason sparring at Tae Kwon Do or however you spell it. While he was sparring we went back home to get JoLynn’s purse and then stopped by KMart to browse around and waste time. We don’t have KMart in DFW anymore so I often drop by when in Abilene.
After picking Mason up, we went to have lunch at some new place called Skeet’s…..basically just Texas cookin’. We had planned to go to Bonzai Japanese for habatchi for my birthday meal that afternoon – but I changed my mind, thinking that might be too big of a meal for lunch.
After stopping by the grocery store and dealing with an impromptu nose bleed [it was a gusher] from Mason we headed home for the rest of the day. One of Morgan’s friends came over to spend the night and we had a yummy home-cooked meal for dinner. I was tired from my first week back at school and the previous late night so I went to bed a little after 10p.
Sunday, we got up and JoLynn and the kids sorted laundry and got it started. She told the kids they had a personal goal to get everything washed, folded and put away by the end of the day or ALL of them were going to give up electronics for a week. Not sure how that ended yesterday, but they were well on their way when I left.
I started to head home around 2:00p, just as JoLynn and the kids were leaving for a bowling play date with some friends. As I headed down the road, I called JoLynn and said I would follow them there and watch them bowl for a bit. It was fun to watch the kids bowl, even though Morgan was acting like a doofus around her boyfriend. I always thought she would be the girlfriend who wanted to beat her boyfriend at everything…..but apparently not.
So, in between all that – did some home work and last night watched my Dallas MAVS become NBA World Champs over the cry-baby Miami Heat !!!
Another week begins.
NBA Finals – 06/07/2011 – Mavs vs. Heat – Game 4

And yes, I was there !!! My friend Courtney is a sports enthusiast….and she loves to go to the big games….lucky for me, she doesn’t like to go alone. So, she got us tickets !! Woo hoo !!! We were in Section 323, Row E – yes, at the top but not all the way, our backs were to a wall so we could stand most of the game and the view was great. The crowd was amazing…….so fired up !!!
Of course, we couldn’t lose……even with my Dirk under the weather and getting an IV during halftime, when the 4th quarter got there – we unleashed !!!
MAVS : 86 HEAT : 83
Take that !
So now the series is tied 2-2 and we get one more game here……I am sure we will win it. Let’s go MAVS….and let’s not forget the other awesome reason to go watch them play……
Funny things kids say……

I have a facebook friend who has a 5 year old, she saw him tinkering around in his play room and asked him what he was doing – he said “inventing something” – she decided to venture further and asked him what he was inventing, he said “a contraption” – she decided to leave it at that.
This makes me smile.
Summer School

So, summer school starts tomorrow. I am taking an English class….the professor uses WordPress [so does this blog] to communicate with students and provide course info. The website is :
http://2350introtext.wordpress.com/
…in case you want to check out my intense work load over the next 5 1/2 weeks. I guess I will just get up, go to school, go to work, study, go to bed…..EVERY night. I can do it. It’s not for long. And, then no summer classes for the other half of the summer.
Well, I better go read those 100 pages now, tomorrow starts early.
