Friday Five – Random

Oh my goodness, three Friday 5′s in a row, it is almost like I pre-did these weeks in advance so I wouldn’t have to remember and then just set them to post on each Friday……yeah, that’s what I did.  Most of these have ONE word answers.  I thought about elaborating but then thought, nah.

1.  What would you do if a random stranger gave you a bouquet of roses?

Smile.

2.  What is the most commonly used color in your house?

Green

3.  What color is your favorite t-shirt?

grey

4.  If you could go back in time, what time would you live in and where would you live?

Little House on the Prairie days…..I would love self-sufficient living – even with the hardships.

5.  If you could have any ONE thing in the entire world (not including money) what would it be?

If “I” could have one thing….not wish one thing for the world to have because that would be easy.  Me, one thing I would want to have.  Maybe I already have it ?  Or do I have to choose one thing that I don’t already have that I would want to have ?

I say, love.  I have it now and I can’t imagine not having it so, love….the one thing I would always want for me.

OK – you know the drill.  Copy these questions in to your own blog/webpage and answer them for your self or copy and paste them as a comment here.

Birthday Round-Up

Just a final note to say thanks to all of my friends and family for the over abundance of birthday wishes.  On my actual birthday, yesterday, I had 79 birthday wishes on Facebook !   And, as the evening ended, I met Mandy, Zach, Mandy’s mom and dad all at Colter’s BBQ for a birthday dinner.  I even got a gift card to my favorite “toy” store, OFFICE MAX !!  Woo hoo !

Birthday Celebration Weekend

Woo hoo – what a great and SUPER BUSY weekend I just had.

My friend Courtney and I have birthdays that are just one day apart so for the 2nd or 3rd time, I think, we decided to have a BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION WEEKEND.   The schedule was as follows :

Friday – May 14th – No Frills Grill in Fort Worth

We had a great time and thanks go to Lisa, Kristen, Jen, Mandy, Zach, Tom, Kurt and Jinni for making the trip out and spending the evening with us; playing trivia, eating good food and even singing.  A special thanks to Kristen who brought CUPCAKES for the occasion.

Saturday, May 15th – Dinner at Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant

My day began with a wake-up call from my sister, niece and nephew letting me know they were on their way to see me and I had better get up and get ready.  Once they were there, we went and had lunch at The Candlelight Inn in Arlington.  My niece was “starving” so it was our top priority.   We then spent the rest of the afternoon running around doing errands and picking up stuff that my sister needed while they were in town.

Around 5:00p we made it to Chuy’s so we could get our names in for a party of 14 to arrive at 5:30p.  A big thanks to Tom, Kurt, JoLynn, Mason, Morgan, Curtis, Kristen, Mandy and Zach for making it out to this event also.   No singing, thank goodness, but there were presents and cards and Kristen picked up my check at the end of the evening.   We had really great food, some good eye-candy in the waiters and busboys and another fun evening was had by all.

Tom and Kurt came back to my place after dinner WITH A BASKIN ROBBINS ICE CREAM CAKE, as if we weren’t all already stuffed to the gills, and we sat around and talked and munched for a bit.   Fun family time.

Sunday, May 16th – Lone Star Park

Sunday morning was off to a great start when JoLynn, the kids and I met Tom and Kurt for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel.  We set off after breakfast to finish our errands and spent some extra time with each other before it was time for JoLynn and the kids to head back to Abilene.  They hit the road a little after 2:00p and then the rest of the birthday celebration weekend continued for me.

We were off to the races  !!  People started gathering around 1:00p at the race track in Grand Prairie.  I was a  little later as I spent some extra time with JoLynn and the kids before they left that day.  I arrived a little before 3p.  It was SUPER hot out and the sun was beating down on everything.   Thanks to Jen, Jessica, Angela, David, Ryan and Harley for enduring the heat and spending the day at the races.

I ended up breaking even with a big win in the last race so the day ended well.   Last stop of the night, a quick bite to eat at Buffalo Wild Wings where I met Mandy and Zach.

AGAIN, thanks to everyone that shared the birthday weekend – it was VERY busy and a lot of fun.

Can’t wait until next year.

Friday Five – Wishes and Birthdays

I decided since my birthday is in a few days, this would be a fun one to share.

1.  Do you really make wishes when you blow out the candles on your cake?

Yes, if I have a cake, I make a wish.  Why not ?

2.  Have any of the wishes ever come true, if yes?

I’m sure they have – I can’t remember all of them but knowing me, I probably wished for things that were quite capable of coming true.

3.  Tell us a favorite gift you’ve received, or something you’d really like for your next birthday.

I have received lots of favorite gifts over the years, if I started trying to name them now, I would forget one accidentally and hurt someone’s feelings.  My favorites are ones that really show that the person who gave me the gift knows me and was thoughtful in their selection.  This year, I want to get a bike.  I am picky though, so for those that have asked, I am asking for gift cards to use to buy the bike.

4.  What flavor cake?

Hands down…..yellow cake [or cupcakes] with chocolate icing.

5.  How do you feel about birthdays ?

Love them.  I love to have a celebration of some sort every year because it just gives me a chance to get together with friends and family and have a good time.  In fact, I am having a birthday weekend this year that starts today with 3 days of events shared with another friend whose birthday is the day before mine.  Let the fun begin.

And, now you.  Copy these questions into your own blog or webpage and answer away.  If you don’t have your own place, copy them in to the comments here and answer.

Not exactly how I planned to spend my morning…..

I got up this morning and set out on two errands.

  • Pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy
  • Get a new battery for my car because it has been acting up

Well, I arrived at the pharmacy around 8:30a to pick up the Rx.  Discovered, oddly enough, they don’t open until 9:00a – so I thought, I will go to Sam’s and get the car battery and then come back.  Went out to the car and …..

NOTHING.

Would not start.   So, called a few friends – awesome friends – to see if anyone could get away and come jump-start me.  Courtney to the rescue.  However, the battery would not jump.  So we bought some new jumper cables and tried again, same thing.  I needed some anyway.

Next, called Charles to see if he had any ideas.  He was asleep but ended up headed this way to help.  Courtney and I decided to go ahead and head to Sam’s to get a battery.  We called Charles and told him to meet us at the car when he got there.

Once back at the car with the battery we started to replace it – and 10 minutes later with a little help from another customer of the pharmacy who had some useful tools, we had the new battery installed.  The moment of truth, I got in the car and…….

……yay !  It started.

So, not exactly how I had my morning planned out and I was about 6 minutes late for work.  But, WOW, do I have awesome friends or what ?

Friday Five – Clothes

So, my cousin is giving me grief about not doing the Friday 5 anymore, so I am resurrecting it today.  I guess I should do as he asks since he is practically the only one that ever reads and comments here.

1.  What if your favorite piece of clothing and how does it make you feel?

Hmmmm, I guess I would say my capris … all of them.   I work from home, so I am mainly in capris and t-shirts while I work.  My capris are reflective of the weight I have lost in the last 20 months.  They are 2 sizes down from what they were before then so they make me feel good.

2.  What was the most expensive article of clothing you ever bought?

I don’t really buy expensive clothes, again with the working from home thing.  But, when I worked in an office, I probably spent $100 or so on a couple of suit jackets.  Not much more than that.  I don’t really have the need to dress up often.  And when I do, because it is so rare, I don’t spend a lot of money to do it.

3.  What is a current fashion trend you think looks horrible?

This is the truth and also directed toward my niece and nephew even though they will probably never read it.  I HATE the trend of wearing low riding pants….especially on guys when the waistband is around their butt.  They think they look cool but they look ridiculous.

4.  What decade do you think had the best clothes?

Another tough one for me….I am just not a fashionista.  I can only comment about the decades I have lived in because I don’t think I know the trends prior to that as well.  I think I liked my clothes best in the 90s.

5.  If you friends/family could throw away a single piece of your clothing, which do you think it would be and why?

Easy…..my lime green zip polo shirt.  I  have had it for probably 15 years and I wear it too much – but it is comfy and I love the color.  Could have been my answer to Question 1 but I saved it for here.

OK – you know the drill.  Copy and paste the questions to your own blog on in to the comments here and let me know your thoughts on clothes.

Current To-Do List

No Friday 5 yet – but here is my Friday To-Do List…..this is everything I have on my to-do list.  Of course, I would like to complete it all this weekend but alas, I will not.

  • Finishing Filing [personal and work]
  • Vacuum
  • Mop kitchen and both bathrooms
  • Update Planner
  • Craft
  • Mail Package to Mom and Dad
  • Put away laundry
  • Finish hanging stars in bedroom
  • Go to the library
  • Get Birthday/Mother’s Day/Congrats Cards
  • Straighten office
  • Unpack craft box
  • Get oil changed
  • Find pictures for living room frames
  • Hook up PS2
  • Buy 4 more fish for fish tank

And that is all I can think of or  have written down on random post-its and white boards around my apartment.  Ugh…too much and so little time.

Going to a wedding tomorrow…..I’ll update from that on Sunday.  And watch the list above and I will cross out stuff as I get it done this weekend.

The anticlimactic tattoo

So, I got a tattoo.

End of story.

LOL !  It seems like there was so much leading up to the tattoo….picking a date, deciding on a design, etc.   And then in just a short 25 minutes, it was done and life goes on.

I will post pictures soon.  The first few days it is all red and ointmenty while it starts to heal.  Now, it is sore and scabby.  So, once it looks decent, I will post some pics.

And, it did NOT hurt.  I know mine is smaller so it didn’t take long to do it but still, it just felt like little pin pricks as he did it.  I have a high tolerance for pain, but really I think it would be bearable for just about anyone.

 Anyway, got a tattoo….anticlimactic.

P.S.  Did I say this was going to be my only one ?  hee hee

Ugly Betty *SERIES* Finale

As most of you may know, I was a big Ugly Betty fan when it first started airing 4 years ago.  I actually got hooked when I watched an episode that introduced accountant, Henry Grubstick, I knew immediately that he was the one for Betty.

At the end of Season Two, they “jumped the shark” for me.  At this point, they had completely written Henry, and in turn, the relationship between Betty and Henry, into a corner that even a miracle or an entire dream season couldn’t fix.  The last episode of Season 2 was the last I watched………until now.

When it was announced that this would be the last season, I combed the Entertainment News websites and “spoiler” sites periodically to see if there was any sign of Henry.  There was not.  Then, lo and behold, in a best kept secret, he showed up three episodes ago.  I watched the two episodes he was in and I wished I hadn’t.  His visit and their storyline wrap-up left me cold.  She was not the Betty I had loved in Season 1 and 2.  And, he was still stuck in a corner with nowhere to go.

Now, many predicted, that last nights episode would have Daniel and Betty finally realize their feelings for each other and leave us thinking that they were endgame.  I disagreed.  I thought Daniel might take a shot but I felt that at this point, the best way to leave Betty was on her own, living her career dreams.

Thank God I was right.  The ending for me gave both Daniel and Betty an understanding of how important they were to each other and the courage for each of them to pursue their dreams.   I might have seen some one-sided feeling from Daniel, but I never saw it from Betty.  And, as hard as Daniel’s mom tried to convince them both I don’t think either really wanted to go that way.  I was a little disappointed to see Daniel follow Betty to London like a lost puppy, but I am glad they are remaining friends.

I think the ending left it so the Daniel/Betty fans can make their own happy ending – but it also left it so the Henry/Betty fans and even the Gio/Betty fans, can still have their happy endings too.

Somehow as time goes by in my little Betty/Henry loving heart, I will find a way for them to be reunited once again.

Adios, Ugly Betty.  You will be missed.

Reality TV and me

So, I am constantly giving my friend, Courtney, a hard time about watching “ALL” reality shows and sometimes I think she takes it in the fun I am intending and other times, I think I irritate her.  LOL.

Anyway, back in the beginning of reality TV she probably did watch most of them because to be honest there were only a handful.  But, now that there are like 100 at least, I can honestly say she no longer watches “ALL” of  them and in fact probably only watches a handful.

I was totally against reality TV in the beginning but now that there are like 100 of them, I have also picked out a few that I follow.  My main requirement is that there is some sort of measurable competition that determines the outcome.  I have only one right now that doesn’t follow that guideline.  So, in no particular order, here are the ones I currently follow :

  • The Amazing Race
  • Top Chef
  • Chopped
  • Project Runway
  • Dancing With The Stars

Dancing With The Stars will probably be off my list next season. I just wanted to watch to see Olympic Gold Medalist Evan Lysacek and I might even stop watching when and if he gets booted.

The reason I am mentioning all of this is that with the resurrection of my blog, I am going to start having comments on these shows after they air.  I used to not really post TV stuff on my blog because I didn’t think most people would care about what I watch on TV but then I decided, this is my blog, why not.
